Rising Stars RVA

Arts Ignite brings year-round performing arts education to Richmond,Virginia, through our Rising Stars performing arts camp.

About the program

Igniting the Arts in RVA

In 2022, Arts Ignite partnered with Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts (PHSSA)—Richmond’s first charter school—through Board Member Keith Bell to bring performing arts back to the school after years without it due to funding cuts. Rising Stars camp introduced a brand-new curriculum and model, giving students fresh opportunities to explore their creativity. The program’s success now brings us back to Richmond three times a year to spark art, community, and joy.

Rooted in Community

Since launching Rising Stars RVA, Arts Ignite has built lasting partnerships across the city. In 2023, we partnered with Virginia Commonwealth University to offer paid internships for promising future Teaching Artists at Rising Stars, followed by Virginia Union University in 2024. That same year, we expanded to Swansboro Elementary with a weekly after-school dance program, further deepening our connection to RVA.

Fostering Creativity and Exploration

Each Rising Stars camp immerses students in theater, dance, and music, empowering them to create original work. The week ends with a student showcase that shines with creativity and community spirit.

“When we first encountered the program, we were hoping that the students would be animated and excited about it. But we never thought we would see them BLOSSOM from Day 1 to Day 5.”

– Principal Tarneé Hudson
