Teaching Artist Openings
Waterloo, IA
For the 2023 Arts Ignite Waterloo! Summer Camp, Arts Ignite Teaching Artists will be the primary classroom teachers for a two-week arts camp in Waterloo, IA. Teaching Artists will be part of a 8-person Arts Ignite team, including the Arts Ignite Waterloo! Program Facilitator and the Arts Ignite Programs Department staff. This residency will take place from June 10 – June 24, 2023. Art forms needed: dance, theatre, creative writing and music!
About Arts Ignite Waterloo!
Arts Ignite Waterloo! is a two-week arts camp integrating English Language Learning with Theatre, Dance, Creative Writing, and Music held in partnership with the Waterloo School District in Waterloo, Iowa and the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa. Our arts camp will offer students the opportunity to engage in arts-rich learning led by a team of four (4) Arts Ignite Teaching Artists, one (1) Program Facilitator, and four (4) UNI student interns who collectively as both experienced educators and professional artists.
The program is a prong of the Migrant/ELL summer program and is designed to meet the linguistic and academic needs of the migrant students in Waterloo. Teaching Artists will work with students on specific art projects for a culminating community event and sharing at the end of the program. Each project will focus on strengthening students’ English language proficiency, positive interactions with their community, positive peer relationships, and core skills like creativity, confidence, collaboration, communication, and social emotional learning.
Richmond, VA
For the Patrick Henry School of Science and Art (PHSSA) Rising Stars Residency, the Arts Ignite Teaching Artists will be the primary classroom teacher for a one-week residency in Richmond, VA from June 19-23rd, 2023. Teaching Artists will be part of a 5-person Arts Ignite team, including the Program Facilitator.
About the Rising Stars Residency
The Arts Ignite PHSSA Rising Stars program is a one-week musical theater residency where 50-60 students in grades K-5 will learn about the performing arts through classes in Acting, Music, Visual Art and Dance.
Our residency will offer students the opportunity to engage in arts-rich learning led by a team of four (4) Arts Ignite Teaching Artists, one (1) Program Facilitator, and one (1) Program Administrator. Through daily half-day classes and rehearsals, Teaching Artists will work with students on specific performance projects for a culminating community event and sharing at the end of the program. Each project will focus on cultivating students’ social emotional skills in relationship building and self-awareness as well as core skills like creativity, confidence, collaboration, communication, and exposure to varied art forms and artists.
Brooklyn & Queens, NY
Arts Ignite Teaching Artists will lead monthly hour-long art workshops at two Win residences, Win Westway and Win Glenwood. Our workshops will focus on developing and deepening young people’s exposure to different art forms and artists and expanding their creative capacity. Both the visual and performing arts will be offered and each session will serve as an exciting introduction to a new skill and
experience. Each workshop will also focus on cultivating social emotional skills in relationship building and self-awareness as well as core skills like creativity, confidence, collaboration, and communication.
Teaching Artists are responsible for lesson planning and working collaboratively with students and the Arts Ignite team throughout their time onsite. Apply here.
Bronx, New York
Arts Ignite is seeking Teaching Artists of all genres to join the Arts Ignite Lutheran Social Services team to lead bi-weekly workshops and take part in community events throughout the year with students ages 5 to 17. Workshops will generally take place from 2:00 to 3:30 PM with two (2) 45 minute classes on Fridays. During workshops and events, students will be offered the opportunity to engage in arts-rich learning led by their Arts Ignite Teaching Artists. Each workshop will also focus on building students’ positive peer relationships as well as the core skills of creativity, confidence, collaboration, and communication.
All teaching artists must be conversational to fluent in Spanish, as instruction is led primarily in Spanish. Before being onsite, teaching artists must fill out a Justice Center Fingerprint Application Form, and an LSSNY Volunteer Packet. Teaching artists must also be available to participate in a mandatory two (2) hour Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment (PSASH) training. This training will be held virtually and facilitated by the Lutheran Social Services team. Apply here.
Activity Submission
Ongoing – Creative Activity Kits
Create meaningful and accessible art that makes a difference in students’ lives! Creative Activity Kits contain workbooks with activities in various art forms (visual art, music, dance, and storytelling) for both individual and communal learning amongst students. With an umbrella theme of Community, Courage and Creative Capacity, CAK Teaching Artists create activities that establish genuine connections between students and art.
Teaching Artists for Creative Activity Kits must have experience working with students aged 6-13 and a general knowledge of creating virtual activities.

Video Submission
Ongoing – Arts Ignite NOW!
Ignite the arts anytime and anywhere with our workshop video series, Arts Ignite NOW! Each video highlights a different art form, including music, visual art, dance, poetry, and storytelling combined with one or more of Arts Ignite’s core skills. Led by Arts Ignite Teaching Artists, these asynchronous virtual workshops allow learners to strengthen their creative capacity, language acquisition skills, creative problem-solving skills, and innovation.
Teaching Artists for Arts Ignite NOW! must have experience leading and creating activities for students ages 5-16 and the ability to self-record and submit content to the Arts Ignite team. Teaching Artists will take on one of two roles, our workshop leader or our video host. Our workshop leader should be prepared to create an asynchronous video lesson in their respective art form, while adhering to Arts Ignite pillars. Our video host should be prepared to welcome viewers, lead an introductory warm-up that gets viewers ready for the upcoming lesson, and lead a final reflection activity that gets viewers thinking more deeply about the lesson.
