About the program

A look into our first Arts Ignite partnership

Arts Ignite’s longest enduring partner, enFAMILIA, builds healthy family relationships among the immigrant, migrant, and farm worker communities of South Florida. We’ve worked together every summer since our founding in 2006.

Supporting migrant families and children through arts experiences

Our Teaching Artists recognize and celebrate their students’ strengths through daily art classes, supporting their exploration of both voice and choice through the arts. Our classes are designed to support the development of students’ self management skills, social skills, positive identities, and confidence. They also foster a shared sense of contribution and belonging within their community.

A summer full of arts-rich experiences

Culminating in an end-of-summer final presentation and graduation performance, students at Art-in-Action experience the new art forms as a way to explore self-expression. They also meet new people, build positive social networks, develop key creative and communication skills, and—most importantly—enjoy camp as an arts-filled place of fun and joy!

Partner Stories

Meeting students where they are

Arts-in-Action students and their Arts Ignite Teaching Artists join the program with shared enthusiasm for their art forms. Some students come in with background knowledge; others may have no prior experience. This creates an opportunity to guide each student’s artistic journey as a collaboration with their teacher. Everyone leaves with new skills, a deeper understanding of their art form, and a new perspective on the arts.

Facing challenges together

In the summer of 2021, Arts Ignite Teaching Artists led 100% virtual guitar and piano classes with Arts-in-Action students. The group created their own class song and collaborative music video, using video and sound editing software to make something beautiful and personal together—even when they were apart.

Creating new possibilities
