Arts Ignite Program

Workshops and Residencies

Our workshops and residencies connect professional artists with students, exposing them to different art forms. We use the arts to build social and emotional skills with the goal of developing the whole child.

About the program

Spark creativity in an Arts Ignite workshop

Led by our Arts Ignite Teaching Artists, single-session workshops focus on cultivating social and emotional skills such as creativity, confidence, collaboration, and communication. We offer workshops in both the visual and performing arts as a perfect introduction into a new art form, skill, or experience. (Length: 45-90 minutes)

Develop depth of knowledge in a multi-session residency

Multi-session residencies offer students the opportunity to engage in extended learning with their Teaching Artists in order to explore an art form in greater depth. Teaching Artists work with students on specific long-term art projects or culminating events. These projects can focus on positive interactions with the community, healthy peer relationships, and/or social and emotional skills such as creativity, confidence, collaboration, and communication. Sessions may be scheduled as a multi-day residency or recurring weekly class. (Length: varies)

Partner Stories

Workshops and Residencies in Action

Through a partnership with a juvenile detention center in New York City, Arts Ignite led a six-part poetry workshop that encouraged students to tell their stories and explore different methods of communication. The following poem, “Think,” is one example of many from our brilliant Arts Ignite students.

Think

Still I rise
Life is a prize
But I keep my eyes
On those who lie

Happiness and pain
Sunlight and rain
Paths and lanes
Just gotta maintain

Don’t fall asleep
Might fall too deep
Awareness you shall keep
Be a lion not a sheep.
