Program Spotlight: Rising Stars Arts Camp

Arts Ignite Returns to Richmond!

This past October, Arts Ignite led a musical theater residency in Richmond, VA for the first time ever! At the Patrick Henry School of Science and Art, students in grades 2nd through 5th inaugurated the Rising Stars Arts Camp with 6 days of arts learning. Supervised by Arts Ignite Teaching Artists Shavey and Quynn, the Rising Stars Arts Camp led a group of 30 students as they engaged with and learned about musical theater through workshops in acting and dance.

Richmond students were taught about a new musical and style each day from classics like The Wiz to contemporary favorites such as Hamilton and The Prom. Students also participated in daily welcome and reflection activities along with visual art supplemental worksheets and assignments. For two days out of the week, students sharpened their vocal cords during practice singing sessions, taught by Arts Ignite’s Lindsay Roberts Greene.

Arts Ignite is excited to continue working with students from Richmond, VA, at future events and arts camps.
