Little Amal Walks NYC

Broadway Welcomes Little Amal!

Little amal bends down to rest her head on two spectators

On September 16th, joyous melodies and excited cheers filled the streets of Time Square. Hundreds of New Yorkers, students, and the Broadway community came together to welcome Little Amal to New York City.

Little Amal is a 10-year-old refugee from Syria portrayed through a 12-foot puppet who has traveled 5,00 miles across 13 countries including Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and now the United States. For a moment she was lost in Time Square, then, guided by songs and applause, she was greeted by the Broadway community and students of LaGuardia High School. During this emotional celebration, Little Amal danced with young people in the crowd, shared personal moments with many, and touched the hearts of everyone there.

It was a gift to welcome Little Amal during National Arts in Education Week, highlighting the importance of a right to an education that should be accessible to all. We can’t wait to see the rest of her inspiring journey!
